Ubuntu is generally defined as a quality that includes the essential human virtues such as compassion and humanity.
It is often translated as "I am because we are," or "humanity towards others", but is also used in a more philosophical sense to mean "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that, connects all humanity"[Wikipedia]
Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you cannot exist as a human being in isolation. It validates about our interconnectedness. You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality - Ubuntu - you are known for your generosity - in life and in leadership.
"We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.’’ Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Ubuntu is not specific to South Africa, but is common to most African countries : "Obuntu" in Uganda and Tanzania, "Unhu" in Zimbabwe, the name differs slightly – but the concept remains much the same.
